10) Grimes “Eight”
The pixie destroys it on this quick devil versus angel cage match.
9) Alabama Shakes “Hang Loose”
When I hopped in my Silverado and headed into the country there was only one band I put on this year: Alabama Shakes!
Robyn “Call Your Girlfriend”
Not released in 2012, but I re-discovered it. Couldn’t stop playing this jam from one of Scandinavia’s finest.
7) Breakbot feat Ruckazoid “Fantasy”
Best dance song of the year. Retro and current at the same time.
6) WU LYF “Concrete Gold”
I can’t make out what he is singing, but it sounds and feels very hopeful.
5) M83 “Reunion”
New anthem for the youth of today. Some adults love it as well.
4) New Look “Drive You Home”
Soundtrack for a late night in 1984 while driving around in your leather seat fitted Seville.
3) Susanne Sundfor “White Foxes”
The best chorus of the year. I can picture her belting this out over the fjords and awakening the Gods of Norse.
2) Tennis “My Better Self”
The absolute catchiest song of the year. The symbols and baby deer vocals grab me at the core.
1) Gang Gang Dance “Glass Jar”
This song has been on repeat for me since the first listen. The way it builds and climaxes makes the wait worth it.
